  • Scene Assessment:
    • Describe the importance of a scene assessment and the different components within it.
    • Demonstrate the ability to conduct a scene assessment and interpret your findings.
  • Primary Assessment:
    • Describe the importance of a primary assessment and the different components within it.
    • Demonstrate the ability to conduct a primary assessment.
    • Describe the decision-making criteria for determining whether to provide care on site or immediately transport a patient.
    • Define pulse oximetry.
    • Demonstrate use of a pulse oximeter, including evaluation of the reading.
  • Secondary Assessment:
    • Describe the importance of a secondary assessment, the different components within it, and when to conduct it.
    • Demonstrate the ability to conduct a secondary assessment (including vitals and patient history).
  • Ongoing Assessment:
    • Describe the importance of an ongoing assessment and the different components within it.
    • Describe the critical importance of continually assessing a patient to monitor the changes in his or her condition, as well as monitoring the changing environment.
    • Demonstrate the ability to conduct an ongoing assessment, based on patient presentation, and interpret your findings.
    • Identify the impact of effective nonverbal communication skills with patients and peers.
    • Demonstrate how to provide information to the patient about the situation and how the patient will be cared for.
